Branchburg Woman’s Club

New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC

A fun way to help the community since 1960.

Welcome from the BWC

Welcome from the Branchburg Woman’s Club!

Founded in 1960, our club is a proud member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs and the General Federation of Women's Clubs.

The BWC is a non-profit organization of women who want to help the community and participate in fun, creative, and educational activities.  As a New Jersey woman with many responsibilities, you may think that your life is too hectic to consider becoming a BWC member.  However, even if you only have some time now and then, you can be a valued club member plus build new friendships, broaden your horizons, and help others.

A look at our membership will show that even busy women find participating in club activities worthwhile. It’s an easy way to feel part of the community, meet new people with similar interests, and learn new things.

Club activities have evolved along with the interests of the club members.  The club has several extracurricular groups.  Some meet in the daytime and some meet in the evening. Activities currently range from crafts, environmental conservation, food appreciation/outings to film and book discussions. New departments can be created as desired. Fun daytime trips, evenings out, and special social events add to the club experience.

Meeting from September through May, typically on the third Thursday evening of the month, the club’s general membership meetings begin with a guest speaker or an activity.  Then there are refreshments, followed by a club meeting.

Consider coming to a meeting or two as our guest and bring a friend!  Membership inquiries are welcome, especially from residents of Branchburg and nearby towns.  Learn how you can become a valued member of our dynamic and diverse group of women volunteers by joining the Branchburg Woman’s Club.

Soft Purple Yarn Donations Wanted for Baby Caps

The BWC's Special State Project for 2016-2018 is Prevent Child Abuse-NJ (PCA-NJ), a chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America which has chapters in all 50 states.

To help prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome (Abusive Head Trauma), PCA-NJ leads a statewide effort called The Period of Purple Crying program.  The acronym PURPLE is used to describe specific characteristics of an infant's crying during the developmental phase, which begins at about 2 weeks of age and continues until about 3-4 months of age. Parents and caregivers are taught that what they are experiencing is normal and simply a phase in their child's development, which will pass. In partnership with 10 PURPLE hospitals in NJ, new parents learn how to cope with a healthy baby's normal crying, which can cause frustration and anger.  Each baby also receives a purple cap as a reminder to caregivers to help keep babies safe. For several years, the BWC members have been involved in this on-going program by knitting/crocheting purple newborn caps for distribution to PURPLE hospitals.

The BWC is asking the public to help by donating acrylic yarn (preferably soft, lightweight yarn in purple, lavender, or any mixed colors that are predominantly purple). There is a designated collection bin marked "BWC - Period of Purple Crying" in the Branchburg Municipal Building (1077 US Highway 202 North, Branchburg, NJ 08876 Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm)

Other On-Going BWC Community Service Projects:

Many people make resolutions about what they hope to accomplish. Perhaps finding more ways to help others in need is on the list? With busy lives, sometimes that's not easy, but there are simple things that people can do that will make a difference to people who are challenged with difficulties. The Branchburg Woman's Club offers several opportunities to help others.

The Branchburg Woman's Club would like to thank everyone who has donated afghan rectangles and yarn for the club's Warm Up America! Afghan Project.

The club is still seeking contributions of 7 inch x 9 inch knitted or crocheted rectangles and yarn. Finished rectangles should be made with either knitting needles of size 7, 8, or 9 or crochet hook size F or G.

BWC's “Step Away from AbuseGFWC Sock Project

Collection bin inside Branchburg Township Municipal Building,

1077 US Highway 202 North, Branchburg, NJ 08876
Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

How about giving a pair of new socks to the Branchburg Woman's Club's "Step Away from Abuse" GFWC Sock Project?  The Branchburg Woman's Club is collecting new socks that will be given to New Jersey domestic violence shelters to help provide comfort and warmth to adults and children that have been victims of domestic violence.  All sizes of socks are welcome; the collection bin for the new socks (and yarn) is located in Branchburg Township's main building.

Free & Easy Way to Help BWC's Philanthropic Fund

At no cost to themselves, online shoppers can choose to support the Branchburg Woman's Club's annual charitable donations and student achievement awards and help themselves at the same time!

They can shop at over 1,349 participating online retailers, buy the items that they were already going to buy, via the sites from which they were already going to buy, and (usually) generate tax-deductible donations to a participating worthy cause, such as the BWC's Philanthropic Fund?

They just sign up to use the free iGive site as their password-protected shopping portal and then log in there, choose a participating online store, and shop. There is no cost and no obligation. Besides possibly generating a tax deductible donation to the BWC's Philanthropic Fund, they have access to exclusive coupons too. Why shop any other way?  See http://www.iGive.com/BWCPF for more information or call the club at (908) 866-1824 or (908) 866-1060.
